Message from the DDGM Right Worshipful Joshua D. Bumpus

Constant Improvement

The phrase “Making Good Men Better” is used often to describe Freemasonry. Each mason is on his own path to improvement. The ritualistic teachings of the craft are presented to every brother as they are entered, passed, and raised through the 3 degrees. It is up to each individual to apply those teachings to his own life.  We should ever be seekers of light. We are all workers in the quarries of Freemasonry. We are all a much-needed part to the betterment and the future of our craft. Never be complacent with our work. Ask “What can I do to be better?” for those around me, my lodge, & myself.  What we do today shapes the future for those who come tomorrow.  May you ever be inspired for constant improvement. I am grateful for you, my brother.

Always remember we are someone's impression of freemasonry.

Throughout our masonic ritual we are taught the concept of brotherly love. We are taught to practice outside the lodge the values taught within. Freemasonry unites men of every country, sect, and opinion.

When we restrain ourselves from making a negative comment or from interrupting because we feel we 'know better' than another person, we exhibit Temperance, Fortitude, & Prudence. The idea of giving our brothers respect for their ideas even when we don't agree with them. Whether we agree or disagree with those within or outside our fraternity from time to time, the principles of Freemasonry teach us to be tolerant of other beliefs or ideas. To form a true friendship with those who might otherwise remain at a distance.

The light of Freemasonry shines brightest when we walk together in harmony. Practice outside the lodge the values taught within. Be just and upright to yourself and those around you. Be an active and engaging member in your lodge. Together we make a difference for the future of our craft. We are Freemasonry in action.

Fraternally,

Josh
